Salzburg, Austria

we had a day off
so we hopped on a train
and spent the day shopping
in Salzburg

there was a rough start...
[yet again, Mallory's hair made us late]
there was running
and cursing
and a moment of panic
when the door closed behind me
and in front of mallory
but it all worked out
as it usually does

 we had pizza for lunch
to pass the time between train changes

we finally made it

 the buildings were beautiful...

 and the buses were rainbows

and after awhile we were homeward bound...

It was a long, beautiful day
and we made it home alive
with all our limbs
and all our sanity.
I'd say it was a success.

Out and About

Hallo! It's been awhile since we last posted
and we have so much to fill you all in on!
To start with, Merry, Merry (belated) Christmas!
Unfortunately, our holiday was a little rough --
There was homesickness
and actual sickness ...
but thankfully all that has passed
and we are excited to ring in the New Year Garmisch style!
Here are some of the things we've been busy experiencing
over the last week...

{kristan drinking beer at Pub 33}
{our friend Rob - he refuses to take photos for free}
{sisters at Pub 33}
{our salami and cheese baquette}
{this is one of like four blurry pictures because they wouldn't stop moving}
{Ryan being a freak and me}
{kristan being kristan}
...
Another day, another adventure
{we went to Asien Palast for buffet which was delish
--however it is strange because everything is labeled
in German and it is a really strange experience eating
food when you don't know what it is}
{euro penny, us penny}
...
Yet another day
{Garmisch on a sunny morning}
{part of the way up my hike}
{the snow covered trail}
{beautiful view}
{Mal, Liz and I went to The Local Cure later
for burgers and drinks}
{the burgers were fantastic}
{and so were the beers}
{I loved the sign...
beer-music-whiskies}
...
And a random side note partially directed to Shana
because she was curious how my weird
eating habits would change...
they are NOT accomodating to special requests
i.e. saying please no onions will still land you a burger with onions,
however, you will also get a friendly eye roll.
Also, apparently the soy craze hasn't made it to Europe
because Mal's request for a soy latte was met with a
blank stare.

Halfway House and Suicide Sledding

Today has been spectacular!
Five of us made the hike up to the Halfway House,
indulged in food and drink and sledded the whole way down.
It was amazing and terrifying and freezing and absolutely perfect!

We now know that:
a. We need to get waterproof pants and long underwear
b. Kristan needs waterproof gloves
c. When hiking with Kristan allow twice the normal amount of time
(it took us 30 minutes, it took her an hour)
d. We should invest in sleds

here is some photographic proof of our super awesome day off...
{Ryan, Mallory, Rob, Kristan}

{halfway house}

{cappucino}

{apfelstrudel}

{mineral water}

{after sledding down}
{happy!}
{snow outside our patio}
